Mangala signs top deal in US

Ports, Aviation and Media Minister, Mangala Samaraweera with US Secretary of Energy, Spencer Abraham after signing a cooperative agreement for the first program aimed at thwarting potential illicit shipments of nuclear weapons material through seaports at the Department of Energy headquarters in Washington, DC. The US-Sri Lanka agreement falls under the Department of Energy’s Megaports Initiative, part of the US Government’s ‘Second Line of Defense’ program, designed to work with foreign governments to deter, detect and interdict illegal shipments of nuclear weapons materials.AFP

Finance Minister announces salary rise at first UPFA budget

SAARC and ASEAN to work together

The Council of Ministers meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan has requested the SAARC Committee on Economic Cooperation to find out how SAARC and ASEAN could jointly work to enhance their marketshare in the highly competitive European market with the phasing out of quotas under Multi Fibre Agreement, which expires at the closure of this year.
