Orders placed for 2005 school uniform material The Ministry of Education has placed orders with 11 local textile producers for school uniform material required for 2005, a Ministry press release said yesterday. Out of the total 9.3 million meters required for school uniforms for girls and boys, 1.30 million meters will be woven and entirely produced by local producers. A total of 7.99 million meters of grey fabric will be imported by local producers and processed locally prior to dispatching to schools. The Government's policy is to produce uniform material locally with value addition at every stage and to ensure that the material is distributed among all schoolchildren at the school itself, before the December school vacation. Uniform material had to be obtained through Divisional Secretariats and Grama Sevakas previously, inconveniencing parents. |
