Navodya goals reached, 22 schools honoured Twenty two schools which had achieved development goals targeted under the Education Ministry's Navodya schools program in 2003 were honoured at a special ceremony held under the patronage of Education Ministry Secretary Dr. Tara de Mel at the Ministry auditorium at Isurupaya, Battaramulla on Monday. Each school received a computer in appreciation of the repaid development achieved under the Navodya Program. The computers were handed over to the representatives of the respective schools by Dr. de Mel. Dr. de Mel said the Ministry had taken all steps to develop all schools coming under the Navodya program. Schools identified by the Ministry for development under its Divisional Secretariat level school development program were called Navodya schools. She said under this program, emphasis was being laid on all aspects relating to schools development. This included leadership promotion among school principals, creating staff balance by filling teacher vacancies, provision of computer rooms, laboratories and library facilities and provision of facilities for the development of sports and aesthetic subjects under the secondary education modernisation aid scheme and conducting of school competitions at divisional, zonal and provincial level, Dr. de Mel said. Principals of all 22 schools, Provincial Directors of Education, Provincial Co-ordinating officers and 80 students representing the 22 schools attended the ceremony along with their parents and teachers. Senior Assistant Secretary, Presidential Secretariat Sunila Mendis attended the ceremony as a special guest. The 22 schools included the Pilana, Batapola, Pamburana Sariputta, Ranna, Bamunukotuwa Isipathana, Ingaradawula, Ehetuwewa Bandaranayake, Kurunegala D.S. Senanayake, Dambadeniya, Rajanganaya, Mahasen, Kudanelubewa Gemunu, Polonnaruwa Ex-Servicemen's Camp, Wilayaya, Hanguranketha, Orrs Hill Vivekananda, Trincomalee Methodist Balika, Ampara Al Ersen, Uhana, Batticaloa Mandur, Basnagala, Kegalle Al Azar Muslim and Balangoda Udagama Maha Vidyalayas. |
