Procession in Rambukkana town to mark Intl. Anti-Smoking Day Kegalle special correspondent On the 'International Anti-Smoking Day', a huge procession of men, women and students paraded the streets of Rambukkana town in Kegalle district displaying placards and posters against the prevalence of smoking and its addiction among youth and the old in the society today. The students of schools in Rambukkana area along with the students of all 'Daham Pasalas' formed the majority of those who paraded the town. The procession was organised by "Rambukkana Sri Lanka Dharma Vijaya Foundation'. Almost all participants in the parade were displaying placards, banners and posters depicting anti-smoking slogans and views pertaining to the drastic effects of smoking. Venerable Dehiowita Vijitha Wansa Thera, a lecturer in the Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Pirivena was the principal organiser of this movement. The Chairman of Rambukkana Sri Lanka Dharma Vijaya Foundation, Wayamba Provincial Commissioner, Harischandra Ukuwela, Kegalle Health Education Officer, Cyril Kulatunga along with Deputy Adhikarana Sanghanayake of Galboda and Kaniboda Korales, Venerable Halpitiye Rathanawansa Thera participated. A conference was held at which hazards of smoking and the use of drugs could affect to all alike, causing miserable and long suffering diseases and shortening of life spans etc. were discussed. |
