US$ 600 m project will destroy holy bridge, say Hindu activists:

More than 35,000 Hindu activists are protesting plans to dredge the Sethusamudram Ship Channel between India and Sri Lanka, pledging to take their agitation nationwide in two weeks.

President's move timely: CWC

The Ceylon Workers' Congress yesterday welcomed President Mahinda Rajapaksa's decision to extend his support to the Ceylon Workers' Congress' efforts to increase the plantation workers wages in the rubber and tea growing manufacturing trades to a monthly minium wage of Rs. 5,000.

No LTTE infiltration along East coast: Indian Police

Director General of Police D Mukherjee has denied any LTTE infiltration along the East coast of the State. On a private visit to Madurai on Sunday, the DGP said that there was no intelligence report on infiltration of LTTE cadres along the South East coast.

Step forward for tourism boost:

New Tourism Act hailed

Stakeholders of the leisure industry hailed the decision taken to implement the new Tourism Act with effect from October 1. “This is a piece of legislation the industry was waiting for a long time and it will create better working relationship between the government bodies and the private sector” said the President of the Sri Lanka Tourist Hotels Association, Hiran Cooray.
