COLOMBO: Over two hundred fifty persons including tourists visiting
the Sigiriya frescoes were attacked by wasps yesterday and 86 were
admitted to the Sigiriya Government Hospital, the Sigiriya Police said.
The prevailing hot and windy climate and disturbances caused by the
shouting of visitors have led to the warps attack from inside the caves.
Sigiriya Police sources said eight persons were transferred to the
Dambulla Base Hospital for further treatment while others have been
discharged after treatment.
Dambulla Hospital sources confirmed that they have admitted eight
persons attacked by wasps, but had discharged them last evening.
