Deaf and mute dancers perform the Thousand-hand Bodhisattva dance in Hangzhou, in eastern China’s Jiangsu province, to mark World Handicap Day. The dance is derived from and modelled on ancient Buddhist art engraved on the walls of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, in northwest China’s Gansu province, and the performance tells the story of an ancient princess who sacrifices her arms to help others attain enlightenment. Matara-Kataragama line on track

THE construction of the first phase of the proposed Matara-Kataragama railway line would commence early next year. The 27-kilometre first stage would be from Matara to Beliatta and it would have seven railway stations in Matara, Pilladura, Weherahena, Kekanadura, Bambarakanda, Wavurukannala and Beliatta.
