Lanka-New Zealand tie - up for canned fish firm
COLOMBO: The Ceylon Fisheries Corporation recently signed a
memorandum of understanding with a New Zealand firm for setting up a
canned fish factory at Galle as a joint venture.
The factory will be setup on a 19 acre plot of land belonging to the
Southern Development Authority, said Corporation Chairman W.A.J.E.
Fernando.
The facility costing nearly million US$ 50 will produce about 105
metric tons of canned fish daily of which 10 per cent will be sold in
the local market and the balance exported.
He said it is also hoped to produce about 45 metric tons of packeted
fish and 90 metic tons of fish meal daily. |
