Wegama Vihara artefacts affected by elements

RIKILLAGASKADA: The ancient statues of Lord Buddha and the ancient frescoes at the Wegama Vihara are adversely affected due to leak of rain water comes into the temple on rainy days, .

Electricity has not been provided to Wegama Raja Maha Vihara which comes under the Udahewaheta Sashanarashaka Bala Mandalaya until today.

According to legend, this is the last temple which was constructed by King Henkanda Bisobandara who constructed many temples. Accordingly, a statue of King Henkanda Bisobandara can be seen only in this temple.

Due to leak, the rain water flowing in to the temple on rainy days that ancient statue of King Henkanda Bisobandara too has started to decay.

Hence Ven. Alawattegama Rahula Thera and Dayaka Sabha of Wegama Raja Maha Vihara request the concerned authorities to make arrangements to repair the temple buildings and help preserve the ancient monuments to exist in their pristine glory.
