COLOMBO: The Colombo Municipal Council's Public Health Department has
drawn the attention of all Government Institutions, Private
Organisations and the public in Colombo on the need to strictly adhere
to the instructions issued in dealing with Mosquito-borne diseases with
a view to control the spreading of diseases like Chikungunya and Dengue.
"As both diseases are transmitted by mosquitoes which breed in fresh
water collections, the occupier of every place should take following
precautionary measures for the purpose of preventing mosquito-borne
diseases", the CMC's Public Health Department's Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam said.
Any places where water could collect and stagnate should be
eliminated, all gutters, down-pipes and drains cleared of all
obstructions to the flow of water and all cisterns, tanks and other
receptacles for water should be maintained, kept closed or covered as to
make them mosquito-free.
All wells in the vicinity should also be properly maintained, he
added. |
