Anti-Conversion Bill needs two-thirds majority

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara yesterday told Parliament that the Supreme Court has recommended that certain clauses of the Prohibition of Forcible Conversion of Religion Bill violate certain articles of the Constitution and that the Bill in its present form has to be passed by not less than a two thirds majority and approved by the people at a referendum.

Rs. 5100 m for Gemi Diriya poverty alleviation program

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has reserved Rs.5100 million for the Samurdhi Ministry to implement a special poverty alleviation program named Gemi Diriya to uplift the socio-economic conditions of low income groups in rural areas, Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Deputy Minister Jagath Pushpakumara said
