Ja-Ela group correspondent An Iranian, Kiyounars Alimardan, 33, a physically handicapped person is going around the world carrying a peace message and already covered more than 10 countries. With his message he came to Sri Lanka on his way to Para Olympics in Athens for weight lifting and wheel chair racing. Kiyounars is presently staying at 'Nissansala' centre for training mentally handicapped, Tudella, Ja-Ela. He carries his message through the streets of Sri Lanka in his wheel chair and beginning his journey in Sri Lanka at the point of his disembarkation in his wheel chair and reached first at Ja-Ela. He said that he has the full backing of his country's President Mohammad Razak Katami for carrying the peace message. He has already carried the message to Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Kerghyztan, Sri Lanka is the last country in the first lap of his peace mission. After staying in Sri Lanka for 15 days he would proceed to Para-Olympics in Athens, Greece. Kiyounars hopes to carry his peace message to as many countries as possible and once he completes his world peace tour he would write a book giving comprehensive account of his total experience. He has participated in the Para Olympics held in Kazakhstan in 2002 and in the first Asian Para Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and won medals in both games. He thanked Rev. Bro. Gregory Boyle, Director, 'Nisansala' for accommodating him and looking after him during his stay. He also appeals to the international organisations and the United Nations to help him to complete his globe trotting peace mission. |
