Man sentenced to death

Kalutara High Court Judge Sarath Abrew sentenced a thirty-year-old youth to death, for killing a seventy-year-old woman while trying to remove her earrings.

The accused, Mallavivaarachchige Sisira Prabath of Palatota-Kalutara pleaded guilty at the commencement of the hearing of the case.

The Attorney General filed the plaint against the accused for killing H. B. Punchinona of Palatota by stabbing her on July 31, 1996.

The police produced the knife which was used to stab the woman.

Kidney donor sought

A 39-year-old father of two children with kidney failure appeals for a compassionate donor in order to undergo life saving kidney transplant. Blood group is O positive. Those willing are requested to kindly contact their family doctor on telephone no. 2778281.

Heart patient seeks assistance

Ms. Arasilang Kumary, 20 of Ardlaw Division, Albion Estate, Agrapatana has been diagnosed with "Artial Septal Defect". Doctors have recommended immediate heart surgery to save her life. The surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 350,000 which her family cannot afford, and requests financial contributions from the public to facilitate the surgery.
