Training for graduate recruits from September

The 17,023 graduates recruited to the public service under the Government's graduate employment program will begin their training from September 2, 2004. The letters in this regard are now being sent to the graduates, the Government Information Department said.

They will receive training in English, computer usage, and financial regulations at district level. A monthly allowance of Rs.6,000 will be paid.

The Government has identified the vacancies in the State sector and the recruits, most of whom are women, will be channelled to the appropriate jobs. The graduates were chosen regardless of political affiliations.

More than 57,000 graduates applied for positions in the Government service. After rejecting the applications of graduates who are already employed, the Government determined that 41,000 graduates are unemployed. The names of the rest of the selected graduates will be announced before the end of September.
