A 22-member delegation from Pakistan who are on a three day familiarization tour of Sri Lanka organized by the National Defence College of Pakistan called on Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar on Monday, states a Foreign Ministry press release. The multi-party delegation comprised members from the Pakistan Muslim League, Pakistan People's Party, Alliance of Religious Parties (MMA), Muhajir Qaumi Movement, Muslim Conference (from Azad kashmir) including three ladies, independent members from the National and Provincial Assemblies of Pakistan, two Mayors, officers of the Armed Forces and representatives of the academic community and the private sector. The Minister in his opening statement spoke of the close and cordial relations that Sri Lanka and Pakistan have always maintained for over 55 years since independence. He also briefed the delegation on current developments in Sri Lanka especially in relation to the peace process. Developments within SAARC and Sri Lanka's perceptions on SAARC were also discussed. Earlier this year, a team of officers from the prestigious National Defence College had visited Sri Lanka. |
