Thirteen farmers of the All Ceylon Peasants Federation (ACPF) yesterday commenced a fast unto to death campaign opposite the Fort Railway Station to force the Government to immediately bring down the price of Urea fertiliser. The fasting farmers included ACPF General Secretary and JVP Parliamentarian S.K. Subasinghe and an aged farmer woman who are in the picture.

Political sources close to the UNF told the Daily News last night that according to latest reports emanating from Temple Trees, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe having seen the writing on the wall, that the UNF will receive a crushing defeat if there is a general election at this moment in time.

PM would have given Eelam to Prabhakaran, but for President - Mahinda Rajapakse

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would have permanently given Eelam status to LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran if President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga had not taken over the Defence Ministry, said Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse.
