Foreign paedophile arrested by Nadira Gunatilleke The special police Unit of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has arrested a Dutch national for sexually abusing children while he was residing in Negombo, NCPA spokesman said. The suspect was arrested following a tip off received by NCPA Chairman Prof. Harendra de Silva. The man is said to have abused the two children when they visited to his house to see another boy who stayed with them at Don Bosco Institute, Negombo. The two child victims are in-house students of Don Bosco Institute, Negombo. The special police unit raided the house of the foreigner under a court warrant and found a file containing bio data of nearly 350 children. It is discovered that the foreigner is involved in an Netherlands NGO which helps children but this NGO is not registered in Sri Lanka. The special police unit conducts further investigations with the coordination of Netherlands Embassy. The suspect and the two children were produced before Chief Magistrate of the Colombo Magistrates Courts Ms. Kusala Weerawardena was remanded while the two children were directed to the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer and handed over to Don Bosco Institute. The case will be taken up again on February 13. |
