Gang leader shot dead by Sarath Malalasekera An underworld gang leader Abeysinghe Arachchige Sujith Priyankara was shot dead and three others injured opposite the Fire Brigade headquarters at Darley Road, Colombo yesterday. Investigations by ASP Hemantha Adikari revealed that the victim was returning from Court after being granted bail in a murder case. Three others, Sunil Jayakumar of Hungama, Anura Kumar and Milton both of Slave Island were injured and rushed to the Colombo Accident ward. The victim is charged with six murders including a murder where he had allegedly killed four persons in one incident, Chief Inspector Ranjith Maligaspe, OIC, Maradana Police who is assisting in the investigation said. According to investigations the assailants had come in a white car following the victim's vehicle from the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court. While the victim's vehicle stopped at the colour lights near the Fire Brigade headquarters the assailants had made their move firing several shots from T 56 and 9 mm weapons at the occupants of the victim's vehicle, police said. Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath is directing investigations. |
