Defence Seminar from Aug 8 to 10
All arrangements have been finalised for the
Defence Seminar 2012 which will be held in Colombo from August 8 to
10 under the theme ‘Towards lasting peace and stability’.
Resettlement, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and
Reconciliation will be the subjects covered under the given theme.

Army helps clear jungles in civilian lands
The Army extending its support to civilians in
Mavaddipuram in the North, commenced clearing thick jungles in lands
owned by the civilians on their request. Lands that were abandoned
for decades due to terrorist activities were handed back to the
original owners after clearing the landmines and UXO (Unexploded
Explosive Ordnance) left by terrorists during their dominance in the
area. However, the thick jungle overgrown due to the absence of
inhabitants for about thirty years, made lands inaccessible for
civilians.
