“Racketeers and corrupt individuals engaged in child abuse, illicit
liquor and drugs trade and other vices in the Hatton Police area will
have short shrift under my tenure of office.
“I will take stern action against all persons engaged in such corrupt
practices, especially child abusers, said Hatton's new Senior
Superintendent of Police Newin Padmadeva.
He was addressing a meeting at the Nallathanny MV Hall, Maskeliya on
Saturday.
SSP Padmadeva said that the meeting was convened under the vision of
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the co-operation of Livestock
and Rural Community Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman. He said
people of all three communities living in this area needed peaceful and
united life.
“Dengue fever and child abuse cases have increased not only in Hatton
but also in other areas of the country.
“I understand that all the police stations that come under my control
have set up Civil Security Societies.
“Each society is represented by 25 people from each Grama Niladhari
Division and the societies are responsible to maintain peace and unity
and also to make people co-operate with the Police for destroying all
unlawful activities.
He said dengue fever is under control in his area. As far as child
abuse and rape are concerned eight women, including school girls, were
subjected to rape last year and this year seven cases have been reported
