Police trap heroin racketeer

A well known heroin racketeer known as ‘Tinka’ was nabbed after falling for a well laid trap by Public Police Division, OIC of the Kottawa Police SI Thushara Galagedera.

SI Galagedera acting on information given by a member of the Kottawa Civil Defence Committee caught the well known heroin dealer with 1.5 grams of heroin in his possession, while he was conducting a transaction at Mahalwarawa, Pannipitiya.

“The suspect was causing a great deal of damage to the youth of the area who were becoming heroin addicts due to his inducements.

Youths who become heroin addicts are indulging in petty theft and disturbing the peace to sustain their drug habit,” Police sources said. The suspect who has been indulged in the heroin for a long time was produced before the Homagama Magistrate and remanded.

PC’s Ranathunga, Sampath, Weerasuriya and Madura were also associtaed in the raid.
