A people’s party in the making
President Mahinda Rajapaksa launched a massive
development drive and commenced the construction of harbours,
airports, highways, power projects etc. He laid concrete roads in
rural villages. This has been done for the first time in Sri Lanka’s
history. Divi Neguma programme is now in progress. It will upgrade
the living standards of the 3.5 million families in Sri Lanka within
four years. Sri Lanka is lucky to have President Rajapaksa and I am
proud to have a leader of his calibre who can develop the country,
who could convert Sri Lanka as the Wonder of Asia at a time when the
SLFP celebrates its 60th anniversary,

Cpl H R Ratnayake won the war for us
A few days ago, Cpl Ratnayake won the National
Chess Championship for the Visually Handicapped. He was rendered
totally blind by a blast on the Paranthan-Mullaitivu Road at
approximately 1.00 am on November 29, 1998. Cpl Ratnayake was
introduced to the game by the ‘Anda Jana Seva Mandalaya’, the
authority dedicated to serving the visually handicapped, through the
good offices of the Ranaviru Sevana. His teacher was Mr. Sumanapala,
who was a civilian blind from birth,

Sri Lanka Freedom Party - 60 years young
On the death anniversary of Sri Nissanka K.C.,
on February 26, President Mahinda Rajapaksa renamed Maya Avenue as
Herbert Sri Nissanka Mawatha. Sri Nissanka residence ‘Yamuna’ has
been donated to The Buddhist Aramaya. Thus a legend is remembered
for his contribution to the legal system, the formation of the SLFP,
the development of Buddhism, the development of charity, the
contribution to the country, the nation and society and most of all
to humanity,
