Lettering with Artistry
The exhibition showcased the calligraphic
art of the world renowned Iranian calligrapher, Gholamreza Rahpema.
During the exhibition, he gave away one of his masterpieces to the
National Museum of Sri Lanka as a gift.
The letter-work of the masterpiece was done
in pure-gold and is estimated to be around 10 000 U.S dollars

Armed with meticulous flair to weave letters in an artistic style,
‘Calligraphy writers posses the gift to compose simple verses and
passages in a manner that can touch your aesthetic senses to the core.
Their creative prowess allows them to weave whimsical word arts that can
fascinate the hearts of art lovers. Hence the Calligraphy is often
called as the art of fancy lettering. Fascinating as it may sound,
calligraphy is about giving life to signs and letters in an
expressive,
harmonious and skillful manner. The locals were provided with an
exclusive chance to get a glimpse of this wonderful art when the Iranian
calligraphy writer Gholamreza Rahpeyma visited the island recently.
The locals were treated with a unique aesthetic experience with the
unraveling of the ‘Organic Art and Calligraphy exhibition’ where
Gholamreza put some of his artwork at display. The exhibition was held
at the Cultural Section of the Iranian Embassy. The exhibition showcased
the artistic way in which Gholamreza has captured some of momentous
verses and passages from Holy- Quran in to calligraphy portrayals. Over
the years, Calligraphy has arguably become the most venerated form of
Islamic art as it provides a link between the languages of the Muslims
with the religion of Islam. Muslims calls it the art of the spiritual
world. They consider calligraphy to be the visible expression of the
highest art of all.
After the exhibition Gholamreza gave away one of his masterpieces to
the National Museum of Sri Lanka as a gift. The letter-work of the
masterpiece was done in pure-gold and is estimated to be around 10 000
U.S dollars. The masterpiece was handed over to Department Director of
National Museum, Dr. Nanda Wickramasinghe recently.
Very much an expert at his art, Gholareza is a graduate of the
Iranian Calligraphers Association. His passion for the art has turned
him to a world renowned calligraphy writer with many accolades. Amidst
his accolades are ‘Art Appreciation and Medal of Honour from Art Academy
Iran’, Art Appreciation award from National Museum(Belgrade),
Appreciation for best design cover of book(Iran-Teheran), Art
appreciation of Painting House of Moscow-Russia, Appreciation of
National Museum-Algeria. He is also the author of two books on
calligraphy and Islamic architecture paintings. |
