YOGA : Pawanmuktasana

Pawanmuktasana means freedom from air which is related to gaseous distention of stomach. As the name suggests it is beneficial in gas related problems of the stomach.

Step 1 – Lie down on your back on the mat. Fold your left leg up to the knee and the left knee to the chest. Interlock both hands and keep them on your knee support. Inhale and hold your breath.

Step 2 – Support your knee on your chest. Lift your spine and head.

Step 3 – Exhale and try to touch your knee with your forehead. Be in this asana for about seven seconds. Practice this asana three times on your left side and thrice on the right side. You can increase the number of times you wish to practice this asana but always practice the same number for both sides. Do not strain your neck if you cannot touch your knee with your forehead.

[Benefits of the asana ]

* Controls gastritis

* Improves flexibility of the legs and spine.

* Reduces fats in the abdominal area, thighs, buttocks and joints of the body.

* Curbs acid reflux, heart diseases and even gout.

* In women this yoga is very much helpful in curing uterus related or gynaecological problems and gives relief from scanty and painful menstruation. However those who suffer from ailments in the spinal cord and neck are asked not to practice this asana.
