The new Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan (Pillayan) asserted that the East would be developed despite the malicious attempts of certain Tamil politicians to disrupt the development process.

Troops regain Palampiddy

Troops on Saturday afternoon regained Palampiddy, a major LTTE stronghold in Mannar. The Army faced severe resistance by the terrorists as they reached Palampiddy, about 8 km north of Madhu, which the Forces captured recently.

Dhamma steering country on correct path - President

The Government's policy is to steer the country to the correct path by adhering to the Dhamma, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said. The President in a message to mark Vesak said: "It is with much devotion and faith that I join all Sri Lankan Buddhists in celebrating the Great Vesak Festival.

Rs. 2.5b investment for Mini City

A consortium of three leading corporates would invest over Rs. 2,5 billion for a combined mixed development project of their properties which are situated adjacent to each other in Colombo 2. John Keells Holdings, Associated Motorways and Finlays Colombo signed a Memorandum of Understanding to undertake a feasibility study for this project expected to be a landmark in the city of Colombo.
