A.K. Premadasa, PC, dies
COLOMBO: The death occurred yesterday of President's Counsel A.K.
Premadasa (85), who served as Chairman of the Associated Newspapers of
Ceylon Limited (ANCL) for two terms.
His first stint as ANCL Chairman was from 1973 to 1977, following the
takeover of ANCL by the United Front Government. He was appointed
Chairman again for a brief period in 1995.
He was also the Press Council Chairman in 1973. He held the
chairmanship at the State Mortgage and Investment Bank in 1994 and
functioned as Board Member of SLT. He was a founder member of the Sri
Lanka Freedom Party and a close associate of Prime Minister Sirimavo
Bandaranaike.
He has two children including Dr. Keerthi Premadasa, former Dean of
the Mathematics Faculty of the University of Colombo.
His remains are at his Park Road residence in Colombo 5. The funeral
will be held on Thursday (22) at the General Cemetery, Kanatte.
