Construction work in progress on the new suspension bridge linking the mainland with the ‘Parevi Doowa’ (Pigeon Island) in Matara. The State Engineering Corporation (SEC) is handling the construction work under a programme funded by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Rs. 1,500 m housing project to solve shelter problem

The Government will implement a massive housing project at a cost of Rs. 1,500 million to end the prevailing shelter problem countrywide and to cater to housing needs of those who live below the poverty line, NHDA Chairman Mohammed Rafeek told the Daily News.

Italy- Lanka Anti-Terrorist Organisation launched

An Italy-Sri Lanka Anti-Terrorist Organisation was established in Rome under the guidance of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Rome Hemantha Warnakulasuriya P.C. The first project of this association is a website, in Italian, which will be devoted to the brutal atrocities committed by the LTTE.

Lanka IOC to reach self sufficiency

Lanka IOC PLC will shortly increase the capacity of its $ 5.5 million lubricants blending plant to attain self sufficiency in the local lubricants market by October 2008.
