Watery grave for New Year reveller

KIRULAPONE: A man who fell into a 50-feet well on Monday evening, died before being rescued by the fire brigade, OIC Kirulapone CI Suresh Warnasooriya said.

A group celebrating the New Year were having liquor at the edge of a well on Monday around 5.30 p.m. in Nugahapura, Kirulapone. "H.K.Fernando, 52, had leaned back and fallen into the well," OIC Warnasooriya said.

"Villagers and police were unable to save the man. He was pronounced dead by the fire brigade who took out the body," police told the Daily News.
