Rs. 8m for five community halls

The Southern Provincial Council has decided to construct five
community halls in the Ambalangoda Pradeshiya Sabha region.
Chief Minister Shan Wijelal de Silva has allocated Rs. 8 million for
this purpose under the Southern Provincial Council decentralised budget.
The community halls will be built at Nindana, Waturawila,
Iriyagahamulla, Namamiyawa and Polhunnawa. They will be used for
conducting medical clinics, pre-school ceremonies and for other
requirements of residents.
Auditorium for Mahaweli C zone

The Government has provided the Girandurukotte, Mahaweli Agricultural
Research Centre with an auditorium.With most modern facilities, the new
auditorium will serve the Agriculture Department officials and the
farmers of the Mahaweli Zone C training programmes and other community
events. This auditorium seats 250 people.
Rs. 570 m water project for Galewela

A massive water supply scheme has been launched by the Water Supply
and Drainage Ministry to provide the necessary water requirement in
Galewela area.
Under the supervision of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board
this project is continuing centralising the Dambulu-oya reservoir and
stretching over 14 kms towards Galewela town.
The proposed water supply structure prevailing is 42.6 km in the area
while huge tank will be set up in the Evariya Pathaha temple premises to
store the water for distribution. With the completion of this water
project 57,000 persons will be benefitted.
This programme will cover the Galewela town and suburbs, Ranmediyawa,
Pathkolagolla, Kalawewa road, Yatigalpotha, Walaswewa, Dambugalla,
Bambawa, and Athabediwewa.
The Government has allocated Rs. 570 million for the project.
Top price for arecanut

Arecanut farmers have been blessed by higher prices in local markets
around Rambukkana - that Kegalle district town close to famous Pinnawala,
the elephant orphanage.
In Rambukkana, a 100 arecanuts is Rs. 80. And when it comes to 'Rata
Puvak', a variety of arecanut, the price is Rs. 160.
Three prison escapees held

Five prisoners escaped from the Wariyapola prisons on Sunday, the
April 7. The police later arrested three who were hiding in the thick
jungle off Wariyapola.
Police information revealed that five prisoners who participated in a
shramadana programme in the area had assaulted the prison officials and
had escaped.
The Wariyapola police together with the prison officials are
conducting inquiries to arrest the other two prisoners.
Meanwhile a person who was angry that his wife had gone abroad for
employment killed his sister-in-law who had helped his wife to go
abroad.
The victim was identified as M.K. Premawathie (40) a mother of three
children.
The suspect was produced before Court and remanded.
Tap water scheme for Kopiwatte

A new pipe borne water supply scheme for Kopiwatte a remote village
situated in the Ambagamuwa (Ginigathena) DS division in the Nuwara Eliya
district is to be commissioned by the Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat.
The Minister of Livestock Development R.M.C.B. Ratnayake has funded
Rs. 50,000 from his parliamentary decentralised budget - 2008 for
implementation of the water supply project which was a long felt need
for the village of Kopiwatte.
With the commissioning of the new water supply scheme several
families of the village of Kopiwatte who were greatly inconvenienced in
obtaining water for their drinking and house hold chores during the past
several years will be able to get a regular water supply. |
