Rs. 2,500 m development drive for South
The Government has embarked on an expedited mega
development drive for rural villages in the South for which Rs.
2,500 million has been allocated in line with the Mahinda Chinthana
10-year development plan.
3,000 kidney patients at Medawachchiya hospital
The Medawachchiya district hospital has
registered 3,000 kidney patients at their clinic, a spokesman for
the hospital told a progress review meeting.
Over 50 LTTE cadres killed
Military reports received from the battlefronts
in the North indicate that 52 Tigers were killed and at least 42
injured during weekend military offensives aimed at liberating the
Nedumaran and supporters held for supporting Tigers
Tamil nationalist leader Pazha Nedumaran and at
least 164 members of his outfit were held on Saturday for staging a
demonstration in support of the Tigers and against the Sri Lankan
and Indian Governments.
New species of mountain mouse deer in Horton Plains?
Reports by a wildlife photographer and a
naturalist indicate that they may have either discovered a very rare
new species or a sub species of a mountain mouse deer, known as
Meeminna in Sinhalese, endemic to Sri Lanka.
