3,000 kidney patients at Medawachchiya hospital

MEDAWACHCHIYA: The Medawachchiya district hospital has registered 3,000 kidney patients at their clinic, a spokesman for the hospital told a progress review meeting.

This progress review meeting was held at the PDHS office in Anuradhapura on Saturday. Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva instructed officials to give 10 dialysis machines and a new ward complex to the Medawachchiya hospital soon.

Sources said the 3,000 kidney patients are treated at Medawachchiya district hospital while more kidney patients are reported from Negampaha, Thambuttegama, Horowpothana, Kebithigollewa, Kekirawa and Anuradhapura teaching hospital. The Minister said more kidney patients are also reported from North Central, Uva and North Western Provinces.

Minister de Silva instructed Additional Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilake to extend health facilities to kidney patients in the Anuradhapura district.
