Snatch thief gets away with part of necklace
Victor Marambage, Talawa group correspondent
A snatch-thief forcibly entered the Talawa-Andarawewa Road home of
Principal Kiralogama Subodhi Vidyalaya, Kumari Seneviratna and snatched
a part of the gold necklace she was wearing.
A medium built short man tapped on her door as she was changing after
returning from school and had asked her for whereabouts of a person.
After telling him that she did not know the person some instinct told
her to close the door.
She closed the door, but the thief forced himself into the house,
showed her a kris-knife and tried to snatch the gold necklace. She
struggled with the thief shouting “Horek, Horek”. As she was holding
onto the necklace only a part of the necklace was in the hands of the
thief. He ran away.”
An accomplice on a motorcycle waiting on the road took off with the
thief.
A woman who came running when the shouts were heard saw the
motorcycle. She has seen the number plate but does not remember due to
her anxiety.
A three-wheeler driver followed the motorcycle and blocked it, the
two thieves over-powered him and rode away.
They were going towards Anuradhapura.
Mrs. Seneviratna cannot remember the build or the face of the thief
well as she was in a daze.
According to OIC Talawa Police Inspector Jayantha Dahanaka, this is
not an isolated case. Several such snatches have been reported to police
earlier.
He believes that these thieves are members of an organised gang.
Inspector Dahanaka requests the public to be more vigilant of
suspicious characters like these while keeping an eye open for other
terrorists.
He also thanked the three-wheel driver for his action in trying to
apprehend the thieves.
