Troops enter final phase in Thoppigala

Troops engaged in the humanitarian mission to liberate the last bastion of the LTTE in the East have entered the final phase of the battle in Thoppigala by engaging in clearing operations in the jungle terrain bordering Narakamulla and Tharavikulam Tiger bases, Military sources said yesterday.

Indian Navy hands over 12 Lankan fishermen

The Indian Navy handed over 12 fishermen and two boats together with their fishing equipment to the Sri Lanka Navy at Kankesanthurai yesterday. The fishermen were taken into custody by the Indian Coast Guard three months ago after straying into Indian waters.

Money-gobbling State institutions hampering infrastructure development - Enterprise Development Minister

The expenditure incurred by some State institutions prevents the Government from allocating more funds for the country's infrastructure development projects, Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, Dr. Sarath Amunugama said at the national conference on Policy Constraints, Regulatory Barriers and Regional Economic Development held yesterday in Colombo.
