Kandy SC and CR only unbeaten teams

RUGBY: Defending champions Kandy Sports Club and their closest
challengers CR and FC preserved their unbeaten records by overcoming CH
and FC and Havelocks respectively in the Caltex 'A' Division League
Rugby Tournament.
The mighty Kandy SC which is aiming to retain the 'A' Division League
Rugby Title for a record seventh successive year scored a hard fought
16-11 win over a gallant CH and FC outfit at Nittawela. The lads from
Kandy have obtained 26.0 points from six matches having scored 44 tries.
Runners up of the Caltex 'A' Division League Rugby Title for the last
three years and reigning Clifford Cup champions CR and FC who are making
a determined bid to clinch the League Title which has eluded them for
the last eight years have also collected 26.0 points from six games
having crossed the opponents goal line on 40 occasions CH and FC which
suffered their second successive defeat remain in third position with
17.5 points from six outings.
The lads from Maitland crescent who last won the 'A' Division League
Title in the year 2000 have scored 21 tries.
The Sri Lanka Air Force have climbed upto fifth position, after their
runaway 46-11 win over Old Zahirians, followed by the Army while the
policemen have slipped into seventh place after losing to Army by 18-28.
The mighty Kandy SC will confront the star studded CR and FC at
Longden Place on July 1 (Sunday) which will decide the table leaders at
the end of the first round of the Caltex 'A' Division League. |
