LTTE pistol gang leader killed

MANNAR: An LTTE pistol gang leader was killed by the Naval
foot patrol yesterday morning in Pesalai, Mannar, the Media Centre for
the National Security said. According to a spokesman for the MCNS, a
group of sailors conducting foot patrol yesterday at around 5.00 a.m.
observed two suspects carrying weapons and coming towards the troops.
Despites the warnings of the Navy the suspects proceeded, he added.
The sailors fired at the suspect killing one. Another fled the area.
In a subsequent search operation the Naval patrol recovered a body of
an LTTE cadre along with a T56 riffle and two magazines.
The dead LTTE cadre has been identified as one of the LTTE pistol
gang leader in Mannar and engaged in several terrorist activities and
crimes in the area. He was also suspected of killing a sailor during the
foot patrol last Friday", the MCNS spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Security Forces repulsed an LTTE attack causing heavy
damages to Tigers at the Muhamalai FDL in Jaffna yesterday morning.
A group of LTTE cadres attempted to infiltrate the Muhamalai FDL was
successfully repulsed by the Security Forces yesterday at around 1.00
a.m.
The Tiger cadres fled the area on the retaliatory attack, the MCNS
spokesman said.
The LTTE suffered heavy damage, he added. |
