Prelate's cremation today under State patronage

COLOMBO: The cremation of Ven. Mahopadyaya Rajakeeya Panditha Akuretiye Amarawansa, Chief Sanghanayake Thera of Dakshina Lanka will be held under State patronage at Independence Square, Colombo today at 3.30 p.m.

His remains are lying at the Maligakanda Vidyodaya Pirivena hall for the public to pay respects.

The funeral procession bearing the prelate's remains will leave the Maligakanda Vidyodaya Pirivena precincts at 2.30 p.m. and proceed to Independence Square via Maligakanda Road, Kularatna Mawatha, Maradana Road, Piyadasa Sirisena Mawatha, Vipulasena Mawatha, Deans Road, C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha, Albert Crescent and Independence Avenue.

Colombo Traffic Police said these roads will be closed for traffic at various intervals to facilitate the funeral procession. Motorists are requested to use alternative routes during this period to avoid inconvenience.
