First death anniversary of Lt. Gen Parami Kulatunge
COLOMBO: Parami Suddammika Bandara Kulatunge, popularly known
as Parami was born on October 09, 1951 at Lewella, Kandy and was
educated at Trinity College where along with his education achievements
excelled in sports and athletics.
Kulatunge having left school and joined the Army. Having enlisted as
an officer cadet on July 20, 1971 he underwent military training at the
Sri Lanka military academy, Diyathalawa. On successful completion of his
training he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on October 4, 1972,
Subsequently he was posted to the Gemunu Watch.
On May 1, 2000 he was promoted to the rank of Major General. He
utilised the knowledge gained from training courses followed both
locally and abroad and contributed towards the improvement of the Army.
At the time of his death he functioned as Deputy Chief of Staff of the
Army.
Lieutenant General Kulatunge posed a formidable challenge to
terrorists in the North. He was a tower of strength to the Army as well
as to those who worked with him.
He was slain at Pannipitiya by an LTTE suicide bomber on Monday June
26, 2006 morning while proceeding to his office along with his escort
vehicle. Ranaviru Kulatunge, his driver Sergeant A. R. Gomes and
Corporal L.B. Buddhika Maduranga died on the spot in the terrorist
explosion along with a civilian.
Members of his family and close associates assembled at Lewella,
Kandy on June 24, and offered a Sanghika Dana in his memory. |
