INAUGURAL FLIGHT: Mihin Lanka, Sri Lanka's first low cost
flight to Thailand launched on June 23 is planning to have three flights
per week targeting business and pilgrimage tourists to Sri Lanka.
At present more than 5000 Thai tourists arrive in Sri Lanka per year.
The number of Thai tourists will increase in the future with the launch
of this flight, Mihin Lanka sources said.
According to Mihin Lanka sources this is a tremendous opportunity to
promote tourist traffic to Sri Lanka.
Mihin Lanka took a group of Sri Lankan tourism and business
stakeholders in their inaugural tour to explore opportunities in
Thailand.
Managing Director S. Senaratne said that this is an excellent
opportunity to promote Thai Tourists to Sri Lanka and having a budget
airline would definitely help the industry.
Senior Manager, Jetwing Travels, Darshana Cabraal, one of the trade
delegates to join in the inauguration said there should be different
segments in the market for healthy competition. Most Thai Travel Agents
are very keen to promote Sri Lanka through this airline.
Assistant Director/Marketing, Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Indrajith De
Silva who is handling this market said this is a very good opportunity
to Sri Lanka to promote Sri Lanka for pilgrim and business travellers
since there is a historical relationship between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
