Phoenix Cup football final :

Saunders beat Ratnam 3-1

Saunders SC clinched the 2013 Phoenix Cup after an action packed game of football when they defeated Ratnam SC by 3-1 in the final worked off yesterday at the City Football League grounds. A M M Naleer in the 12th minute scored the first goal for the champions while their second goal was gifted by Ratnam’s, Sanka Danusha as he booted one to their own goal in the 33rd minute. The half time ended with Saunders Leading 2-0. Ratnam scored their first goal in the 59th minute when R Lasantha headed the ball into the opponents net off a superb pass from his skipper Sivanka.

Inter-Provincial Women’s T20 Cricket :

CP ready for final battle with WP

Central Province ladies cricket team captained by Sripali Weerakkody will go with their morals high when they take on Western Province in the finals of Women’s Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Cricket Championship organized by Sri Lanka Cricket which will be played today, Thursday (May 2) at the NCC grounds, Colombo with play commencing at 1.30 pm.

First innings win for crusaders SC

Crusaders Sports Club beat Old Dharmapalians Sprots Club by 67 runs on first innings in their inter-=club division one Sara Trophy tournament cricket match played at Surrey grounds, Maggona. Batting first Crusaders scored 151 runs with Suresh Silva scoring 51 runs and in reply Old Dharmapalians were skittled out for 104 runs with Padmanath Perera and Ishara Amerasinghe capturing 4 for 27 and 4 for 30 runs respectively. In their second essay Crusaders declared at 206 for 8 with Suresh Silva notching up his second half ton while Malin Silva claimed 5 for 72.
