Gem industry gets a boost through high tech venture

To develop the Sri Lankan gem industry as a hub in the region National Gem and Jewelry Authority (NGJA) will draw up plans to set up a high tech gem center/tower in Ratnapura under the twin city programme with Idar-Oberstein city in Germany and Ratnapura Municipal Council.

Customs to launch automated export documentation system

Since the beginning of 2011 the Sri Lanka Customs department has been gradually introducing automation to various divisions of its services. The first was to work online with Motor Traffic department, followed by mandatory Direct Trade Input system (DTI), online payments of customs charges. The manifesting process is also being implemented with ship agents, SLPA and logistics companies.

Lighthouse Residences opens in Galle

Alloy MTD Group of Companies based in Malaysia have invested USD$35 million for two pilot projects for the construction of apartment complexes in Galle and Habaraduwa. Being the projects main shareholders, the group had initially started construction on the Galle site in 2006 and concluded operations in the beginning of 2012. The Habaraduwa project would be concluded soon.
