Sri Lanka, West Indies move into semis

Sri Lanka entered the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup when they pushed England aside by 19 runs in their final Super Eight game cheered on deafeningly and inspired by a full house of supporters at the Pallekele Stadium yesterday.

Windies win in ‘Super Over’

After the 20 over game a side ended in a tie - 139 each side – West Indies beat New Zealand in the death over. New Zealand made 17 and West Indies made 19. New Zealand were eliminated. A win for New Zealand would have helped them save face, considering that they had lost to Sri Lanka in the ‘Super Over’ and beaten by England. Captain Ross Taylor played a gallant innings for 62, but it was to no avail has the game ended in a tie New Zealand won the toss and decided to put the West Indians in. The Kiwis were forced to leave out injured Daniel Vettori.
