Windies win in ‘Super Over’

After the 20 over game a side ended in a tie - 139 each side – West Indies beat New Zealand in the death over. New Zealand made 17 and West Indies made 19. New Zealand were eliminated. A win for New Zealand would have helped them save face, considering that they had lost to Sri Lanka in the ‘Super Over’ and beaten by England. Captain Ross Taylor played a gallant innings for 62, but it was to no avail has the game ended in a tie New Zealand won the toss and decided to put the West Indians in. The Kiwis were forced to leave out injured Daniel Vettori.

West Indies left out Dwyne Bravo and Fidel Edwards and gave Samuel Badree and Darren Bravo a game.

West Indies: 139 (C Gayle 30, M Samuels 24, K Pollard 28; DAJ Bracewell 3 for 31, T Southee 3 for 21, N McCullum 2 for 19) New Zealand: 139 for 7 (R Taylor 62 not out, S Narine 3 for 20)

Super Over: New Zealand 17-0; West Indies 19-0
