Lanka’s tallest tower to come up
Sri Lanka’s tallest building, running in to 68
floor constructed by Indocean Developers (Pvt) Ltd, a venture of
Indian property group South City Projects (Kolkata) Pvt. Ltd, will
get underway in August and would be completed in three years.
Located opposite Beira Lake, the 400-apartment condominium tower
development with top-of-line finishes, is speculated to cost around
Rs. 8 billion.

We will support our innovators -Minister Rishad
“Sri Lanka thanks its innovators and wants them
to continue their efforts,said Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of
Industry and Commerce addressing the gala Star Awards 2011,the
international scale packaging awards event in Sri Lanka held at the
Cinnamon Grand on May 27 to felicitate top innovators in the $ one
billion packaging industry of Sri Lanka. The event was sponsored by
Sri Lanka Telecom “I thank the packaging award winners today for
their innovative contributions to our industry and urge them to
continue their good work. My Ministry will strengthen our assistance
to the industry in training and development in future,” he said. The
event was organised by Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging and the
Packaging Development Centre and was attended by top corporate
personalities of packaging and other firms.

Brand new A320 joins national carrier fleet
SriLankan Airlines acquired a new Airbus A320
last month, expanding its fleet to 23 aircraft. The national
carriers fleet now consists of eight medium - range A320s, seven
twin-engined wide-body A330s, and six long-haul A 340s, and two De
Havilland Twin Otter float-planes for domestic services. The new
aircraft has a seating configuration of 20 Business Class seats and
120 Economy Class seats, and is equipped with sophisticated Inflight
Entertainment systems and in-seat AVOD (audio, video on demand) in
Business Class and Economy Class, as well as 25 movies, nine TV
channels, 25 audio channels and 15 games.
