President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the Kalutara branch of the Open University yesterday. This two storied building consisting of an information centre, auditorium, class rooms and a Network Access Centre was constructed under the Distance Education Modernization program. Fonseka appears before Court Martial

Refuses to accept authority of Court:

The first Court Martial, appointed to try General Sarath Fonseka on charges against his participation in political work while in active service commenced its sittings as scheduled at 9.30 a.m. yesterday morning at Navy Headquarters.

He is a spokesman for Sarath Fonseka:

Former Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva’s statement on the arrest of General Sarath Fonseka is contrary to law and has given an extra motivation to certain international forces to interfere with the internal matters, threatening the sovereignty of the country, senior counsel Gomin Dayasri said.

Paddy harvest to top 4 million MT this year

A paddy harvest of 2.6 million metric tons is expected from the current Maha season harvest. The total paddy output of the year is expected to be 4 million metric tons. Unlike previous years, there is no maximum limit on paddy purchased from farmers.
