We secured peace with dignity - President

The imperialists labelled us as a lethargic and idle nation and Sri Lankans who succeeded the imperialists did everything to uphold their thinking, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“We secured peace with dignity where people of all communities could live without any problem. We are for a country which is rich in moral values”, he said. The President was speaking at the unveiling of pinnacle at the Sri Anandaramaya at Heenatiyangala in Kalutara South.

The President stressed that material success is no longer a parameter for development. “The development we talked of, is closely intertwined with the moral conduct of the people”, he emphasized. He said that thousands of devotees venerate Nagadeepa daily. They never thought that they would be able to visit the Nagadeepa which is situated in their soil. Tamils in their thousands daily flocked to the Nallur Kovil.

The President said a number of erudite monks of the caliber of Benthara Sri Saddathissa Nayaka Thera have lived in the Heenatiyagala Sri Anandaramaya which is an honour to the village and the district at large.

He added that the development of a temple or religious institution is depended on the dedication and the perseverance of the laymen. The President added that the temples development is a mirror of laymen’s spiritual and moral development too.

Chief Incumbent of the Temple Thiniyawala Gnaninda Thera and the Chief Adhikarana Sanghanayaka Thera of the Southern Province and the Chief Incumbent of Sithulpawwa Rajamaha Viharaya Ven Metaramba Hemarathana Thera were present. Chairman of the Dayaka Sabha retired High Court Judge Maxwell Paranagama also spoke.
