UPFA will make country prosperous - Defence Secretary
Edward WEERASINGHE Kelaniya group correspondent
The people have wholeheartedly accepted the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’
policies and the Presidential Election victory has amply demonstrated
this fact, said Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at a meeting with
Kelaniya Samurdhi recipients and the people of Hunupitiya, Wattala in in
the Kelaniya electorate on Monday. The meeting was organised by Kelaniya
Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera and Kelaniya Samurdhi
Developments Managers.
The Defence Secretary was welcomed by Labour Minister Mervyn Silva on
the occasion.
The Defence Secretary further said that people elected Mahinda
Rajapaksa in 2005, expecting a unitary State and he took three years to
fulfil this objective and make it a reality. The freedom achieved after
defeating LTTE terrorism has been betrayed to the international forces
by certain unpatriotic elements. We now have an opportunity, to answer
them at this General Election, he said.
After defeating the LTTE in the North and East the President has
assigned Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa for the ‘Uthuru
Vasanthaya’ and ‘Negenahira Novodaya’ programs.
The task given to Basil Rajapaksa by the President is over and now he
has appointed him as the Group Leader for the UPFA candidates in Gampaha
District to develop the Gampaha District.
The Defence Secretary further said that today the President needs a
strong Parliament with a two thirds majority to fulfil this country’s
development task. The people have got a real opportunity to elect such a
strong Government at the April 8 General Election. The UPFA Government
headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa will bring prosperity to the country through
a series of development programs in all spheres.
He further said that the President has appointed Mervyn Silva as the
Chief SLFP Organiser for Kelaniya to work for the people’s betterment. A
capable man like Mervyn Silva is an asset to the Government to carry out
the ‘Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma’ program.
Labour Minister and Gampaha District UPFA Candidate Mervyn Silva said
the Government will achieve a historic victory at the General Election.
The people of the country have lined up to give the biggest mandate
to the Government at the General Election in the same way they
re-elected President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
