Thilini Chandrika advance to final

Sri Lanka's women's doubles pair Chandrika de Silva and Thilini Jayasinghe advanced to the final which was to be played last evening.

Meanwhile Hasitha Chanaka created a major upset at the ongoing Fajar International Badminton tournament in Iran when he beat Micheal Matejka of Slovenia straight sets 21-16, 21-13 in a first round game played in Tehran, yesterday. Matejka's (ranked 133 player in the world) defeat in the hands of an unseeded Sri Lankan is the biggest upset recorded so far in this tourney.

Chanaka then advanced to the pre quarter finals when he defeated Shiri Nikzad of Iran in a three setter 10-21, 21-15, 21-17.

Later he lost his quarter final to Malaysia's Abdul Latif.

The other Sri Lankan Niluka Karunaratne beat Pakistan number one Wajid Ali in the pre-quarter finals 21-13, 21-13 but laterlost to Abdul Latif in the quarter finals.

Meanwhile in the women's singles Chandrika de Silva and Thilini Jauyasinghe failed to reach the quarter finals.

The men's doubles event duo Diluka and Dinuka lost their semi final.
