I strongly salute the President, Secretary of Defence and Heads of
Armed Forces for the memorable actions taken by them for the benefit and
protection of all Sri Lankans specially those living in the Northern and
Eastern Provinces by cancelling the peace agreement and declaring
retaliations of gun against gun actions to annihilate terrorism and for
the salvation of innocent Tamils living under Prabhakaran's terrorist
armies. It is not possible for two Armies in one country.
Prabhakaran is not the guardian or saviour of Tamils. More than 50
per cent of Tamils happily live in South of Killinochchi with other
communities respecting the existing or common laws in the country
sharing the happiness and sorrows of all the other communities.
Prabhakaran keeps Tamils in Killinochchi under his laws and under the
pressure of his boots and not under the common laws required by those
people. He has kicked the democracy of those people. He is a self
appointed dictator.
He has taken into his custody the basic human requirements such as
education, health, housing, cultivation, fishing, communication, trade
and freedom of speech. If anyone speaks against him, he will be tortured
or killed.
He is the number one murderer in the world in recent times. He killed
Rajiv Gandhi and Ranasinghe Premadasa. He killed eminent Tamil
politicians who represented the Tamil people of the country. Prabhakaran
is hiding in an underground cage.
P.H.K. PATHIRANA, Nugegoda
Commissioner General of Examinations, yours is unique position apart
from its magnitude, that commands the highest degree of confidence and
the utmost faith of the students and their parents of the whole island.
In the present context, I wish to state very frankly, that you are
shouldering a tremendous volume of responsibilities which is tantamount
to a heavy task almost single handed.
In the meantime it should also be unreservedly stressed that the
destiny, fate and the future of each child of thousands and thousands of
children, who sit public examinations throughout the country, depends
entirely on the correct and justifiable convictions you arrive at, over
the evaluations of their answer scripts.
In this connection, so far what you have and how you have handled
controversial situations is highly commendable.
At this juncture with the certain amount of displeasure
discontentment and heartburn, it has to be pointed out that the probable
and possible anomalies in respect of evaluation of answer scripts of the
A/L students of which the results were released recently still remains
in a sphere of doubt and uncertainty; Many a promising and bright child
had gone completely disappointed.
Had it been so, surly it would have been due to the chaotic upheaval
created by disgruntled examiners/teachers on the eve of the commencement
of marking scripts with a view to sabotaging the whole procedure on a
demand of trivial salary anomalies - problems which had no connection
with the Examinations Department.
This unprecedented situation you or your predecessors would never
have experienced. Anyway, you have faced the unpleasant and unholy
situation quite soberly and insightfully and brought the horses to
water.
Again you are in for a big thank you. It is a known fact, that human
minds afflicted with unsatiable antagonism and unmolested hatred would
mot easily come back to normality.
Hence, the evaluations under such ambiences rarely would take its
true form. May be these leaders and followers who promoted this calamity
would have been induced to resume owing to unseen and unknown under
currents. Someday, the resentments in their minds may depart.
Anyway, now as usual you have called in applications from
disappointed candidates for rescrutiny.
In this particular instance, what has to be specially stressed is
that this time, you may please deviate your self drastically from the
former traditional procedure of rescrutiny which is confined to mere
rechecking or additions of marks already given by the previous examiner
without going through the substance.
This way of rescrutiny is nothing but mere farce; a practical joke
and a dramatic eye-wash.
It was a crafty device intended to cheat, deceive, hoodwink and
deliberately catch the innocent students with chaff.
Hence, please be realistic and honest at this particular instance, as
the performances of some of the unscrupulous examiners remain in
suspicion in the minds of innocent students.
In the name of justice and fairness, please call in the required
number of longstanding, experienced and reliable examiners and get them
to remark the questionable scripts afresh completely ignoring the
markings of previous examiners, it should be borne in mind that this is
not a free service as those students have already paid a double fee.
Let the foregone facts be food for your thought and you may please
resort to fair judgement.
SOMANATH MAHALIYANA, Kurunegala
With reference to your article and comment published on January 23rd
of the Daily News, I was highly impressed by the revelation knowledge
and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit with which you handled the
situation.
The Holy Bible says, "The letter killeth and the spirit giveth life
(2 cor 3 vs 6) without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit one must not
try to attempt to explain the word in the Bible according to one's own
understanding, or private interpretation as the word says in 2 Peter Ch.
1 vs 20 and 21. 1 Pet 1:20 says "Knowing this first that no prophecy of
the scripture is of any private interpretation, 1 Pet 1:21 says, "For
the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man but holy men of God
spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
In St. John 5:30 Jesus said, "I can myself do nothing, as I hear
(from God) I judge and my judgement is just because I seek not my own
will but the will of the Father which has sent me."
In St. John 5:31 Jesus says, "If I bear witness of myself, my witness
is not true." These scriptures prove as led by the Holy Spirit and
clearly explains to us that the voice of Jesus is the voice of God and
they are all the 3 persons of the God Head or Triune Deity.
Herewith, I wish to know the church you are attending so that I can
listen to more revelation knowledge of the word of God that is being
preached there. In this regard let me briefly write to you about myself,
by introduction.
Twenty seven years ago I left Sri Lanka on an invitation from my
senior brother and accepted a teaching appointment in Nigeria. After
seven years I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and became a
Christian. I joined a church from its inception and became active in the
church especially in prayer and intercession, and started a primary
school on a request by my pastor's wife. The school became very popular
in Nigeria and has even developed into a High School.
Last year July I returned to Sri Lanka after my retirement. Since
that time I have been hunting for a gospel church with revelation
knowledge. Not being successful, last week I joined a Methodist church
close to where I live, at Maharagama, since I will not be able to travel
far out of town.
Please, I would be grateful if you can enlighten me on this issue
since I am thirsty for revelation knowledge which I used to hear in my
church in Nigeria and from my Pastor who is an authority on the Bible
and fasts regularly and prays waiting on the Lord.

All developed countries have one, three digit emergency number with
hunting facilities. This makes it easier for people and children to
remember and access quickly.
Now just because some phone company wants to donate a system we have
to remember another emergency number.
It is a shame to say that 119 is difficult to access. If there had
been a problem, then it should have been resolved a long time ago. All
you have to do is to increase the number of lines and personnel. Because
this is an important service, money has to be allocated as a priority.
All donations must serve the 119 national emergency line not their
personnel business/marketing ventures.
If you don't know how to amalgamate a donated telephone service to
existing 119, please, get foreign expertise. The Police hierarchy must
bring in professionalism to their planning process.
