SLC-Coca-Cola Cricket Pathway launched

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday joined hands with Coca Cola Beverages to launch the 'Coca Cola Cricket Pathway' an initiative which promises to discover the hidden cricketing talent among the youngsters in the rural and suburban areas of the country.

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Aravinda de Silva who is also the administrator of Coca Cola Cricket Pathway said that this program will be conducted in the form of regional cricket clinics. The selected students of the districts will participate in a three day clinic mastering the rudiments of the game.

The Coca Cola cricket camps will be conducted in partnership with a cricketing professional having associations with Sri Lanka Cricket, illustrious past cricketers and officials will be involved in the execution of the training programs.

De Silva further said that high performance and consistency will be the criteria for selecting the students through the schools. Records set by players at district level will also be considered for the selections.

Applications forwarded with an endorsement of the school principal, master in charge and the coach will also be looked at but selection will be based on the applicant's skills, talent and past performances. Players who are in the age group of between 15-17 years are eligible to apply and a total of 72 will be selected for each clinic, 60 based on records and 12 through applications.

The cricket camp schedule:

1st camp - Dambulla - March 28, 29, 30

2nd camp - Colombo - May 30, 31 June 1

3rd camp - Kandy - June 27, 28, 29

4th camp - Galle - July 25, 26, 27

5th camp - Dambulla (covering North East) - August 29, 30, 31

6th camp - Colombo - September 26, 27, 28.
