NSB in forefront of customer convenience

The National Savings Bank (NSB) set up in 1971 by an Act of Parliament with the primary objective of promoting the habit of saving among the Sri Lankan community has today expanded its activities to provide more convenient services to its customers.

The bank has maintained its stance as a financially secure institution being the only local bank to be AAA (lka) rated for 5 consecutive years. Having well over 35 years of service in the banking industry the bank is presently the third largest bank in the country in terms of deposits and assets.

"Although we are a licensed specialised bank we are competing with the other commercial banks and state banks and therefore we have developed our products and services to be on par with our competitors in order to provide unmatched convenient banking facilities to our customers.

During the year 2007 the bank has achieved a phenomenal growth with regard to banking and IT facilities. We launched our 111th ATM machine on the December 28 at the Katubedda Campus which is a tremendous achievement for the bank as we started off with only 17 ATMs at the beginning of the year.

We are also hoping to further expand our outreach going up to 135 ATMs within another 2 months time, which will be quite a significantly large network in Sri Lanka," General Manager/CEO of NSB H. S. Piyasiri, said.

As the bank's networks are automatically linked customers have the advantage of engaging in banking transactions at any of the ATMs located islandwide. NSB offers a unique and innovative approach to banking providing the only deposit facility through ATM banking in the entire country, where deposits up to Rs. 100,000 are provided.

Through this the customers have the benefit of engaging in banking transactions after business hours providing them with 24 hour banking convenience. The bank offers the most technologically advanced ATM facilities in the country where a maximum of ten accounts in different branches can be linked to one card.

Although the banks' entire network is not completely centralised, the bank's Intranet facilities provide customers with access to information through the bank's entire network within seconds. This facility also enables customers to pay their utility bills through any one of the bank's branches located islandwide.

All deposits and payments made through the banks networks are therefore updated quickly and efficiently providing customers with speedy updated results. The bank has also setup an ATM facility at Jaffna for the convenience of customers.

The bank has also been directly involved with numerous CSR projects as well many staff training programmes where overseas training has been provided for more than 100 staff members in the areas of technology, risk management, credit risk etc. NSB has maintained the lowest administrative cost, lowest NPL ratios etc., which are direct indicators of a good and sound management system.

Our main objective is customer convenience which we hope to provide through integrated and tailor made financial solutions and all our efforts will be directed towards achieving this goal," concluded Piyasiri.
